The 1st International Conference on Future of Education 2018 was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka together in collaborations with University Sains Malaysia as the Hosting Partner and University of Tampere-Finland and Faculty of Education, University of Colombo as the academic partners of the Conference.

Inauguration Ceremony

The conference was held on 26th – 27th June 2018 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Future of Education 2018 was organized under the theme “Education at Reach” and was chaired by Prof. Anthony Welch, University of Sydney, Australia.

The opening remarks of Future of Education 2018 were made by Prof. Anthony Welch, University of Sydney, Australia (Conference Chair) together with Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Managing Director, The International Institute of Knowledge Management).

Keynote Forum

Key note forum was the one of the most significant moments during the conference and it was enlightened under the theme Imagination and Aspiration of “Education for All” as a Present and Future Human Endeavour: Reaching the Unreachable” by Prof. Samson Nashon (Head and Prof. of Science Education, The University of Columbia, Canada). The second day key note speech was delivered by Prof. Anthony Welch (University of Sydney, Australia) on “The Rise of the East & the Impact of Knowledge Diaspora: Impact, Opportunities and Challenges

Guest Speech

The guest speech was delivered by Prof. Marie Perera (Faculty of Education, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka) under the theme “English for All” Is it a Myth? What the National Assessments Reveal”.

Technical Sessions

The Conference comprised of five technical sessions and researchers presented their research findings. There were 5 main technical sessions. The technical sessions as follow.

  1. Learning and Teaching Methodologies I
  2. Learning and Teaching Methodologies II
  3. Higher Education
  4. New Learning / Teaching Models
  5. Primary and Secondary Education

Conference Networking Dinner with Cultural Show

Following the conference on the first day, it was accompanied by a conference networking dinner hosted by TIIKM.  The aim of this was to build new connections among participants while strengthening their ongoing and future research interests through collaboration. Moreover, this event included a cultural show which represented vivid performances with a blend of Sri Lankan classical dance such as the Kandyan dances and low country dances. The special event marked pleasure for all the participants of this conference successfully.

Participants

Future of Education 2018 provided a solid platform for researchers, stake holders and policy makers from across the globe to share their research findings with one another and to discuss the policy implications. The Conference provided a refreshing experience for all, especially for the young researchers who had the opportunity to share their research findings on an international platform. The Conference was enlightened by international researchers representing following Nations.
